LeBard's Property Today After 7 Years In The Planning Stage

LeBard's property below is 100% out of the 100 year flood plain.  But this year it flooded for the first time ever. County Flood Control did not keep the retention basin clean and California Fish Game regulations make it almost impossible to maintain the creek.
This area was going to be used for a community barn.

Before the Old Town Orcutt Revitalization Began in 2002 Nobody Had Built a New Commercial Building in Over 20 Years

These new buildings would have never been possible if it had not been for the Old Town Orcutt Revitalization Association. The Orcutt Community Plan was finalized in 1997 and it called for Old Town Orcutt to become the culture center for the greater Orcutt area. But until 2002 nothing was being done. And then "OTORA" a grassroots group of citizens got together and started to make things happen.

Board of Directors
Re: Old Town Orcutt Revitalization

April 15, 2009

Dear SBCAG Board Member :

The Old Town Orcutt Revitalization Association (OTORA) is requesting that SBCAG appropriate funding for the next phase of the “Old Town” revitalization.

OTORA is a grassroots group of citizens that has been working on the revitalization of Old Town Orcutt since 2003. I am providing you with a hardcopy PowerPoint presentation that shows you some of our accomplishments. We feel that our most important accomplishment is that we have been able to inspire people to invest in their community’s future, as you will see from the numerous projects underway in Old Town Orcutt.

The attached letter from Congressman Elton Gallegly and the attached “Transportation, Community, and System Preservation Program Grant Application” from the County of Santa Barbara, Department of Public Works informs you of what needs to be done (unfortunately we did not get this grant).

I encourage you to visit the County of Santa Barbara’s website for Long Range Planning to see the tremendous amount of work that has been done so far on the Old Town Orcutt revitalization.

We believe that the revitalization of Old Town Orcutt is perfect for President Obama’s stimulus plan. It will help tremendously in getting our local economy going. And it will become an outstanding example of citizens working together with their government to build a “cultural center” for the entire Orcutt Community while preserving our history.

Sincerely,

Steve LeBard
OTORA President

Flags Are Flying In Old Town Orcutt

OTORA Poppy Seeds for Orcutt Schools

OTORA purchased bulk California Poppy seeds, printed seed packet templates and gave them to Orcutt classrooms. The classroom would usually take 2 pounds of seeds and 250 templates. The students would then cut out the paper templates, glue them together, insert seeds, and sell them in their neighborhoods. The classroom could make $500.00 and kept all of the money for a classroom project.
